God’s Game Plan
Coach’s Devotional
Ready:
“Love the Lord your god with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength. The second is, Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other command greater than these.” – Mark 12:30-31
Set:
Coaching, working, parenting and all the things we have going on in our lives can make daily life feel like an endless race. We get into routine which leaves us on autopilot coasting along.
But what if we paused – really paused – and considered the pattern of Jesus’ life? He had demands and people vying for His attention, but He wasn’t in a hurry. He operated out of deep, rich love for His Father. The outflow of this lifestyle enabled Him to meet others’ needs.
Think about this – you can’t give what you don’t already have. Or, in other words, it’s difficult to be a tour guide to a land that you’re unfamiliar with. Thankfully, God is passionate about your transformation to look more like Jesus. As you allow the Holy Spirit to work in your life, He will change you from the inside out.
Jesus set the example for us on how to love the Father and love others (especially the difficult people). How can we forgive, not overreact, wait patiently, and be okay with being inconvenienced? Look at Jesus. Specifically, look at how He first loved God. You see, loving God will expose your motives, change your perspective, and heal your heart. The outflow of a heart aligned with God’s is revealed in the way you love those around you.
God is doing a work IN you so that He can do a work THROUGH you. May you love Him with all your heart, mind, soul, and strength.
Go:
- How might God be stirring your heart to serve?
- What ways can you help your athletes “love your neighbor”?
Workout:
Ephesians 3:19; 1 John 4:21; Romans 13:9-10
Overtime:
“God, remind me of Your pace of life. Help me slow down and see others the way You do. Soften my heart and quiet my years to receive others’ needs with humility. May I proceed with a posture of sacrificial love the same way that Jesus would. Amen”
