Week 8: Commitment

Coach’s Corner

Warm Up

Read 1 Thessalonians 3:12

Can you believe we have reached the end of the three truths that make up God’s game plan?

Let’s review

Truth 1: You were made on purpose for a purpose.

Truth 2: You can trust God and His Word.

Truth 3: God loves you and sent Jesus.

These truths have helped us learn more about God and what He desires from us. Now, it’s time for us to take action.

Now that we know who God is and how He loves us, we must show our love to Him.

If I saw the word “commitment,” what’s the first thing that pops into your mind? (Take a few answers.)

When we commit to something, we say we will stay with it, whether hard or easy. Committing is to be all in without turning back or giving up. That level of commitment is what God wants from us. So how do we become all in for God? Let’s find out!

Workout

Do you have a favorite team that you’re committed to? (Take a few answers.) Have you ever cheered for a team that did more losing than winning? Did you still love the team anyway? That’s true commitment through the highs and the lows!

So, what does true commitment look like in our relationship with God? Simply, it means that there is nothing else better than God. He is our everything, and we can not imagine life without Him.

Here is an easy way to remember how to be all in for God. We are called to love God with our hearts, head, and hands.

Let’s stand up!

Everyone, point to your heart. We are called to love God with our whole heart and soul, and nothing else should be more important than God. Now, everyone, touch your head. We are called to love God with our minds. We can do this by thinking about God, reading and memorizing the Bible, and praying. Now, hold out your hands. Lastly, we are called to love God with our hands. This looks like loving God by serving other people and helping.

“And may the Lord cause you to increase and overflow with love for one another and everyone, just as we do for you.” 1 Thessalonians 3:12

When we fully understand how much God loves us, we should want to show God’s love back. It seems selfish to receive all this love and choose not to love back.

So, how can we respond to God’s love for us? With our hearts, heads, and hands.

Wrap-Up

  1. How can you show God love with your hands today?
  2. How does God’s love make you feel?

“Lord, we will never fully understand how much You love us. We can choose to commit our lives to You each day and love You with all we say and do. Amen.”
