Week 7: God Sent Jesus For Me

Coach's Corner

Warm-Up

“But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.” – Romans 5:8

Last week, we talked about how God Loves Me. Even though each of us have sinned and don’t deserve His love, God still cared enough to give us a way to have eternal life.

I’m going to pass out bracelets that will help you remember the Bible’s truths found in something we call “The FOUR.” Go ahead and try them on!  Check what’s on them.

There are four icons that surround the bracelet:

  • The heart will help you remember that, “God Loves You.”
  • The division sign will help you remember that, “Sin Separates You.”
  • The cross will help you remember that, “Jesus Rescues You.”
  • The question mark is there to ask, “Will You Trust Him?”

When I point to each icon, say the words that go with each picture. Each time, say it louder!

Workout

Last week, we talked about something amazing to know. God loves you unconditionally!

Who can remind me what that unconditional love means (pause for a few answers)?

Who can remind me what symbol of The FOUR bracelet represents love (pause for a few answers)?

Even at times during a game, you might make a bad play. Even on our best day, we make mistakes. Turn to the person next to you and show them the symbol for mistakes or what the Bible calls sin.

And even though you will make mistakes, you might need someone to rescue you. That’s when your coaches and teammates are supposed to step in and give you a helping hand. Let me clarify—I expect you as a good teammate, to step in and encourage one another whenever someone makes a mistake or a bad play during our practice or a game.

But in life, we have someone who is better than even the best coaches and teammates. We have Jesus Christ! He provided a way out from the consequences of our sin. He will always rescue us.

Turn to your partner and point to the symbol on your bracelet that represents that Jesus rescues us.

Because of God’s great love, He sent His Son to give His life for us. Jesus died on the cross and paid the price for our sins. Once we accept that Jesus has saved us, we can trust Him with everything in our lives.

Romans 10:9 says, “If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”

If we trust that Jesus has saved us from our sins, we can trust Jesus with our lives. When we accept the free gift of salvation, we ask Jesus to forgive us of all of our sins and ask Him to be the Lord, or boss, of our life. We are His forever. We can be secure and loved knowing that Jesus is always with us. It’s like having a friend, a teammate, who will never let you down.

The Bible also tells us that, “But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God.” – John 1:12

So basically, this passage means that once we believe that God sent Jesus for our sins and we accept Jesus as our savior, we get to be a part of God’s heavenly family forever!

For a few minutes, discuss with the person next to you how that makes you feel.

Are there any questions you have about the symbols on the bracelet (pause for answers)?

Wrap-Up

Turn to your partner and identify the symbol the represents trusting Jesus.

Before we wrap up, let me ask you: are you ready to trust Jesus?

If so, pray this prayer along with me:

“Dear God, thank You for loving me and wanting the best for my life. I have lived my life for myself and done things my way, and I am truly sorry.

Jesus, I believe that you are God and have forgiven all my sins by dying and coming back to life again for me. I trust You and ask You to be Lord of my life. I surrender my life to You. You are my God, my Savior and my Lord. Let me experience Your love and Your good plans for my life! Amen.”
