Week 6: Love–God Loves You & Sin Separates You

Coach’s Corner

Warm Up

Hey everyone! We have made it to our third and final truth as we walk through God’s game plan! For the next two weeks, we’ll discuss how God loves you and sent Jesus to save us. Everything we have learned up to this point has prepared us to understand the importance of God’s love for us.

Can anyone tell me what the Gospel means? (Take a few answers.)

The Gospel is the story of the Good News about Jesus coming to earth to save us. Does anyone know why Jesus needed to go to earth to save us in the first place?

All those answers are close, but we will dive into that today. First, let’s pray to start our time together.

“Lord, thank You for everyone here today. Help us listen and learn these important truths about how You love us. Amen.”

Workout

The story we will learn over the next two weeks has four main parts. Today, we are going to learn about the first two. We must first understand that God loved and created us from the beginning.

“So God created man in his own image; he created him in the image of God; he created them male and female.” Genesis 1:27

God delighted in His creation and gave us a place to live and work to do. God had such a close relationship with His creation that He would walk with them as we do with our friends. How amazing is it that God, the most perfect being, created us in His image? That should make you feel very loved and know that God created each of you with such care and love and made no mistakes when you were made. He loves you because He made you!

Unfortunately, this perfect relationship with God ended when humans decided to sin. Sin is the bad stuff we do that makes God sad and separates us from Him, often hurting us and other people. They thought they could ignore what God told them and let Satan trick them into disobeying God. Once humans sinned, that ruined the perfect relationship we had with God. He could no longer be so close to us because He is excellent, and we are marked with sin. The sin caused a divide between humans and God. Since then, there has been sin, and everyone, even you, sins.

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23

So, we have a problem. We once got to experience perfect love and relationship with God, but then sin entered and ruined it. God still loves us so much that He came up with a solution. That solution is what we get to learn about next week.

I want us to remember two things from today: Everyone, make a heart with your hands. God loves us. Now, I want you to raise your arm diagonally across your body. Sin separates us.

Wrap-Up

  1. How does knowing that God created you in His image feel?
  2. Can you give me an example of what sin is?

When you make a commitment to be on God’s Team, you are signing up to walk with Him daily. You are training for this walk by reading His Word and understanding His plan. But where do you start?
