Week 6: Jesus Rescues You pt 1

Let’s review!  Leader go through each symbol so far and what it means

The Heart – God Loves You

Divide – Sin Separates You

What is next?  The Cross – Jesus Rescues You

We all do things wrong, those wrong things affect our relationship with God and others. What can we do? Nothing. WE can’t do anything, but if we think back and remember that God loves us and wants a relationship with us, we have hope.

“Christ suffered for our sins once for all time. He never sinned, but he died for sinners to bring you safely home to God. He suffered physical death, but he was raised to life in the Spirit.” 1 Peter 3:18

Need a game – something with sacrifice (not literal but where you give yourself or something you have up for a teammate)

In today’s game you had to give up something to save a teammate. That is what God did so we could be in an eternal relationship with Him.

Think about your team. What happens if you miss a shot, strike out or fumble the ball? Are you still on the team? What if you get injured and have to sit on the bench? Are you still on the team?  In both cases, of course you are! The same idea applies to God’s team. People have been messing up since the very beginning of the world, but God had a plan to help us.

Your sin does not stop God from loving you. Because of God’s great love, He sent His son, Jesus. At the cross, Jesus took your place and paid the penalty of death (remember last week’s verse? “The wages of sin is death.”) that you deserve for your sins. Jesus could be the final sacrifice forever because He lived a perfect life – He never, ever sinned.

What does the cross symbol mean? Jesus rescues you!
