WELCOME
Let’s review! What is this symbol? What does it mean? Show the FOUR bracelet and do the heart and the divide sign and what they mean
WARM-UP
Simon Says
Q: What are we supposed to do in Simon Says?
Right, to listen and do what the leader says when they say “Simon says …”
Q: What happens when you don’t listen?
Right, you are out. The same idea applies to our relationship with God. When we don’t listen to God, when we sin, we are separated from God – like how you had to sit down when you were out in the game.
WORKOUT
Q: What would happen if you never listened to coach?
(Leader: take a couple examples and add your own from the coach’s viewpoint.)
So, what you are saying is it would not be good!
Q: Why do we need a coach?
(Leader: take a couple examples and add your own from the coach’s viewpoint.)
A team needs a coach, and we need our teammates to make the team the best it can be.
God is the best coach we can ever have. When we sin (do what we want when we know we shouldn’t or do the wrong thing) we separate ourselves from Him and all that He wants to teach us.
Read the verse for this week.
“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” – Romans 6:23
The verse uses the word wages. Wages are what you earn for working. Like a pro athlete who signs a big contract, they earn money or wages.
When you sin, you earn death – separation from God forever.
Most of the time, when you act out and sin, more bad things happen because of that sin.
Q: What might happen if you kick your sibling? (let players answer and walk them through all the possible scenarios: you get in trouble, your parent gets mad, you have to go inside, you miss playing with friends, you miss a fun snack, your parent scolds you, you don’t get to play video games,)
The bad news: we all sin because we’re imperfect humans and that means we have earned death.
The good news: we can be forgiven through God’s unwavering grace and love.
