Week 5: I Can Trust God’s Word

Warm-Up

Let’s review what we have learned so far about God’s Game Plan:
God made you on__________ for a __________ (purpose)
I can ________ God (trust)

“All Scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for teaching, for rebuking, for correcting, for training in righteousness.” – 2 Timothy 3:16

  1. What does profitable mean? (benefit, earn something)
  2. What do you think it means to rebuke? (sharp disapproval or criticism)

Good! Now, show of hands — who here likes to be told when they’ve done something wrong?
Who can share a time when being corrected helped you be a better athlete?

Workout

As your coach, whenever I give you a correction, I do my best to ensure that it comes with a
positive attitude and an encouraging tone. If I simply yelled at you every time you made a mistake, it would not bring about a positive change. So, my aim is to provide feedback but in a way that is positive and loving.

Show of hands — who here likes to receive encouragement about how they play?

Let’s take 30 seconds and say something encouraging to the players next to you.

When I put together a game plan for the team, I get as much information as I can to help everyone
succeed. My hope is that you will all trust the game plan and study it so you can stay on the right path.

In the same way, God has put together everything we need to know about our lives in the Bible or what we also call God’s Word. Have you read the Bible before?

God’s Word is very important because it teaches us what is true. Psalm 33:4 says, “For the word of the LORD holds true, and we can trust everything he does.”

God’s Word also teaches us what is good and right. Psalm 32:8 says, “I will instruct you and show you the way to go; with my eye on you, I will give counsel.”

When we know what is true and what is good and right, we can make good choices to live out God’s great purpose for our lives!

Let’s Huddle up! I’ll say, “I can trust God’s Word!” You say, “Because it is good and right!” (do 3x)

Wrap-Up

Let’s wrap up with a prayer:

“Dear God, thank You for giving us the Bible. Help me to learn the truth of Your Word so that I can trust You more and more every day. Amen.”
