The FOUR 1 & 2

“For God loved the world in this way: he gave his one and only son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.” – John 3:16

God loves you!  Think about it… the One who created the entire universe loves you.  He loves us even though we have a really big problem.  More on that in a few moments.

Here is a simple question for our warm-up today.  What was the coolest thing you have ever made with your own hands? (try to get answers from everyone, coaches too)

WORKOUT

GOD LOVES US

Genesis chapter 1 tells us that God created the universe: Earth and everything on it, as well as everything outside of Earth.  Then God created mankind from the dust of the ground (Genesis 1-2).  He called His creation ‘very good’.

Everything on Earth He made by speaking it into existence… except man.  He formed man from the ground with His own hands and breathed life into him.  Psalm 139 says that God is always watching over us no matter what, but that He also knit us together in our mothers’ wombs.  He created you and God loves His creation.

SIN SEPARATES US

Sadly, we have that big problem.  Sometime after He created everything, Satan visited the Garden of Eden and tempted Adam and Eve.  All God said was to not eat the fruit from one tree.  But Satan talked them into it.  That disobedience is called sin.

“But your iniquities are separating you from your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you so that he does not listen.” – Isaiah 59:2

God is holy.  That means that He is so good that we cannot even understand how good He is.  Being as good as He is, cannot have anything to do with sin.  As the verse from Isaiah says, our sin separates us from God, from the One who made us with His own hands.  And there is nothing we can do about it ourselves.

Our sin also hurts our relationships with others.  Because of our sin, we are tempted to focus on ourselves and not on others.  Every person who has ever lived has that problem.

Except One… a man named Jesus.  This name has come up a few times this season.  Next week, we will talk more about Him.

WRAP-UP

Q: When you hear that God created you with His own hands, what are your thoughts?

Q: What can sin look like?

Thanks be to God because He did not leave us helpless in our sin.  He sent Jesus, who is His only Son, to fix it.  We will pick it up there next week.
