Week 3: Live with God’s Power
WELCOME
“I say, then, walk by the Spirit . . . .” – Galatians 5:16
This season we are strengthening our faith muscles. Last week we learned about joining God’s Team which is the biggest muscle.
WARM-UP
With your arms/hands show me:
How much you love ice cream
How much you love spinach
How much you play video games
How much you love tacos
How much you love ________(name sport)
How much homework you have
How much you think God cares about your performance in a game.
When you trust Jesus with your life, God makes you a new person. You don’t have to hold on to the old sin, guilt, and performance mentality of the past. You have a new identity in Christ. God cares about who you are—not how you perform.
WORKOUT
We get power when we are on God’s Team because:
- God makes you new. God has given you all of your sports abilities so that you will give Him glory. This is a very different way of thinking than we are used to. Your sport gives you an opportunity to show everyone how great Team God is!
- God is with you. God is with you as your grow in your faith. When you accepted Jesus’ gift of salvation, the Holy Spirit came to dwell in you and guide you. Our lives should show we are on God’s Team through our emotions, actions and words.
- God leads you. Being on God’s Team means God is your coach. He leads you through the Holy Spirit in Scripture, prayer, circumstances and through other Christians in your life.
Q: What is an ability you have in sports that God gave you?
Q: What evidence do you see in your life that God is starting to change you?
Additional Scriptures: 2 Corinthians 5:17; Galatians 2:20; Galatians 5:22-25; Romans 8:11; John 14:15-17; John 16:13
