The CORE: Introduction

Week 1: Introduction

Hey team! I am so glad we will have a little time each practice to learn some important things other than our sport.

Since this is our first practice, let’s get to know each other’s names and have a little challenge.  Let’s make a circle. Now, everyone get down into a plank position (demonstrate).  When I say go, hold the plank until everyone has gone around the circle and said their name.

Did everyone make it?  You all are very strong!  Let’s pray and then I’ll tell you about what we are going to learn during Huddle this season.

Father, thank you for these athletes and the strong bodies You have given us. Guide us as we go through this season building our skills and our faith.  Help us to be focused and give You the glory. In Your name we pray, amen.”

Does anyone know what we call this group of muscles (point to your stomach)? (take a few guesses).  That’s right, your core muscles are the ones that you need to hold a plank. This season we are going to work on our spiritual core.  If we can strengthen that, everything else in our lives will benefit.

It takes a while to build muscles, and it takes a while to build spiritual strength too. Each week we will learn a new core idea in building our faith. We’ll have an opportunity to memorize a Bible verse, discuss a truth from the Bible and pray together.  By the end of the season we will have strong bodies and a strong faith.

I am excited and grateful to get to strength not only our bodies but our faith together. Next week we will learn about the first core concept: God’s Team.

Pray and break the Huddle

Lord, guide us as we seek to grow strong faith muscles. Keep us safe as we practice. In Your name, amen.”
