“For God loved the world in this way: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.” – John 3:16

Many teams have that one athlete. The one who appears to be listening to you but then does whatever they want. The one who has so much potential but not a coachable heart. Frankly, athletes like this lack commitment to the team. As coaches, we can see what could be, but we are helpless to help.
God is not helpless to help us when we don’t listen or lack a coachable heart. He just waits for us to commit to His team. When you do make the commitment to be on God’s Team, you are committing to a lifetime of getting to know Jesus personally and walking with Him daily as He guides your life.
As you begin your commitment with God or continue in that commitment, here are four simple truths about the Gospel message:
- God Loves You – God’s love is boundless and unconditional and wants you to personally experience His powerful love through a relationship with Him.
- Sin Separates You – Although God’s love is unconditional, you cannot experience His love if you ignore Him. When you don’t trust God and ignore His ways, you are sinning. Sin damages your relationships with other people and with God. It keeps you from experiencing the fulfilling life that God intends for you, which eternally separates you from God.
- Jesus Rescues You – Sin does not stop God from loving you. Because of God’s great love, He became a human being in Jesus Christ and gave His life for you. Jesus offers you peace with God and a personal relationship with Him. Through faith in Jesus, you can experience God’s love daily, discover your purpose, and have eternal life after death.
- Will You Trust Jesus? – If you haven’t surrendered your life to Jesus, you can place your trust in Jesus by faith through prayer. Talking with God is easy if you remember that He cares about the attitude of your heart rather than the actual words you say.
When you remember these four truths, you are actively getting closer to God. Keep at it!
