Reset 1

“STOP FIGHTING, AND KNOW THAT I AM GOD, EXALTED AMONG THE NATIONS, EXALTED ON THE EARTH.” —PSALM 46:10

As an athlete, you’re always moving, and slowing down could mean losing ground or momentum. There’s no way to win in sports or life when you’ve stopped and everyone else is passing you by.

Sometimes, you might need a do-over or time to stop and start again in a different direction. Maybe it’s time for a new perspective in Christ.

Don’t Move!

Everyone get up and form a circle. Have enough space to move in place. On the leader’s command, start moving around (jumping jacks, running in place, doing the robot, etc.) until the leader says, “Don’t move!”

For the next 60 seconds, do your best to be completely still. The leader will watch for motion and tell anyone who moves to sit down until either the time has run out or there is only one person left standing.

Q: How hard was it to stay still and why?

Q: As an athlete, why do you think it’s so hard to take time to be still?

BIBLE STORY: Jesus calls Peter—Luke 5:1–8

(Read Scripture aloud)

Jesus is teaching along the shore.  He asks Simon Peter, a fisherman, if He can use his boat to address the crowd. Peter’s life was a 24/7 grind, but he just couldn’t stop moving.  He kept striving and working for the next big catch, trying to meet the world’s expectations.  But here, Jesus made him be still and listen. Peter and his friends fished all night and caught nothing.

After teaching, Jesus told Peter to try one more time.

“WHEN THEY DID THIS, THEY CAUGHT A GREAT NUMBER OF FISH, AND THEIR NETS BEGAN TO TEAR.” —LUKE 5:6

Peter fell at Jesus’s knees and said, “Go away from me, because I’m a sinful man, Lord!” (v. 5:8)

Instead, Jesus invited Peter and the others to join Him on a journey that would change their lives forever.  That was Peter’s reset moment.  He saw he needed to change when he finally stopped.  In that moment, Peter knew that Jesus was the Son of God, and his perspective was shifted toward truth and freedom.

STOP & KNOW

You might need a reset, but that’s if you can’t be still and hear God’s voice.  He is the only one who can truly lead you towards a relationship with His Son Jesus.

The words of Psalm 46:10 are key.  It might be hard but, take the time to stop and know that He is God.  Recognize that He is in charge and only He can change your perspective.

You can be set on a new path toward truth and freedom from the 24/7 grind if you take time to be still.

Q: In what areas of your life do you need a reset?

Q: How might a perspective change through Jesus make you free from the 24/7 grind?

When you allow Him to speak to you through the Holy Spirit and His Word, you will experience a perspective change and start a journey toward a new kind of 24/7 life.
