Refuel 2

“AND TO KNOW CHRIST’S LOVE THAT SURPASSES KNOWLEDGE, SO THAT YOU MAY BE FILLED WITH ALL THE FULLNESS OF GOD.”—EPHESIANS 3:19

Last week, we learned of our need for spiritual fuel, much like we need food as a physical fuel. We began with our need to study God’s Word which is incredibly important. Today, we will look at another fuel that is just as important–the spiritual fuel of prayer.

WARM-UP Birthday Lineup

The goal is to line up in order from youngest to oldest without speaking, only your hands. You all win or don’t win depending on if you can organize without words.

(Leader: if they if it seems to be too big of a challenge, allow them to write as well)

Think about how much easier it would have been to get in order if you were allowed to speak. The wonderful thing about prayer is that it is talking to God. Even better than that is that He WANTS us to talk to Him. If you have a best friend, you talk to them because you like them and have a friendship with them. Prayer is our way of talking to God because we love Him and want a strong relationship with Him.

“THEY DEVOTED THEMSELVES TO THE APOSTLES’ TEACHING, TO THE FELLOWSHIP, TO THE BREAKING OF BREAD, AND TO PRAYER.”–ACTS 2:42

One of the essentials of the Church as it was forming was taking time to pray together. That was a key fuel to helping the church grow and believers grow as well.

FUEL UP WITH PRAYER

As an athlete, you need to communicate with your coaches and trainers. They are the experienced mentors who give you guidance, instruction, discipline and encouragement.

This is what prayer is for the believer. It’s direct communication with God the Father that’s been made available to us as part of Christ’s sacrifice on the cross.

Prayer is how you confess your sins, how you worship God and how you give thanks. Prayer is also how you make requests of God, how you listen to hear God’s voice and how you receive guidance from the Holy Spirit.

Prayer fuels:

  • Your intimacy with God (Psalm 145:18).
  • Your wisdom (James 1:5).
  • Your peace (Philippians 4:6–7).
  • Your joy (John 16:24).
