Refuel 1

“AND TO KNOW CHRIST’S LOVE THAT SURPASSES KNOWLEDGE, SO THAT YOU MAY BE FILLED WITH ALL THE FULLNESS OF GOD.” — EPHESIANS 3:19

After practice or a game, you can be pretty tired, right? When that happens, you need to refuel your body. It is like that with Jesus too! We need to learn about Jesus to refuel our hearts.

Like a car needs fuel to drive, your body needs food to be able to play sports. Some foods are good for you, and some are not. Some bad foods may taste good, but they won’t help you for long.

Q: What is something you can eat to help you at sports?
Q: What are some bad foods that can hurt you at sports?
(Leader: Once a few athletes respond, feel free to briefly add your thoughts)

Jesus gave instructions before He left the Earth. (Matthew 28:18-20; Acts 1:8)

After the events of Pentecost, the believers met together every day. Because they studied God’s Word, prayed and had fellowship together, the early Church grew a lot and really fast. Other amazing things also started to happen. (Acts 2:42–43).

Let’s see how studying Scripture can refuel you every day.

FUEL UP WITH SCRIPTURE

In sports, you need a playbook or game plan so you can win games. Not knowing what to do could hurt your performance.

The Bible is the playbook for us who love Jesus. It is God’s way of telling us the truth about Jesus and how we can live for Him.

Scripture helps us:

  • To understand (2 Timothy 3:16).
  • Talk to others about Jesus (Mark 16:15).
  • Grow closer to Jesus (Romans 10:17).
  • To have hope in Jesus (Romans 15:4).

Q: To win the game, how can it help to know what to do and where to be?
Q: In what ways can reading God’s Word fuel you spiritually?

Remember, while it is important to have fuel to win your games, it is more important to have spiritual fuel. Reading the Bible is part of that fuel.

If you want to read the Bible more, talk to us sometime about that. It is important and we want to help you. Let’s pray and close.
