Refuel 1

“AND TO KNOW CHRIST’S LOVE THAT SURPASSES KNOWLEDGE, SO THAT YOU MAY BE FILLED WITH ALL THE FULLNESS OF GOD” —EPHESIANS 3:19

Whether you’re at the beginning of your training or at the end of a big game, the need to refuel your body and your mind never ends. The same goes for following Christ. If you want boundless joy and supernatural hope, you need spiritual fuel.

To be good at your sport, you need fuel. There’s good fuel and bad fuel. Good fuel works perfectly with all your natural systems like nervous, muscular, and cardiovascular. Bad fuel might give you a temporary boost but will run out quickly and could hurt you over time.

Q: What is something you can eat to help you for training, recovery, competition, etc.?
Q: What are some bad foods that can hurt your training, recovery, competition, etc.?
Q: What can you do to fuel the mental side of your athletic life?
Q: On a scale of 1 to 10 (1 being not important at all; 10 being the most important thing), how would you rate the importance of properly fueling your body and mind?
(Leader: Once a few athletes respond, feel free to briefly add your thoughts)

Before Jesus ascended to Heaven, He left instructions for His disciples. (Matthew 28:18 – 20; Acts 1:8)
After the events of Pentecost, the believers began gathering every day in preparation for the calling that God had placed on their lives. Because they studied God’s Word, spent time in prayer and had fellowship together, the early Church experienced rapid, substantial growth. Other amazing things also flowed out of their devotion to spiritual training time (Acts 2:42 – 43).

Let’s go deeper into studying Scripture and how it can refuel you every day.

FUEL UP WITH SCRIPTURE

As an athlete, you need a playbook or game plan to prepare you for competition. Not knowing what to do can hurt your performance.

The Bible is the playbook for the follower of Christ. It is God’s sovereign Word and contains the truth through the Gospel of Jesus Christ and everything you need to live for Him.

Scripture fuels:

  • Your understanding (2 Timothy 3:16).
  • Your witness (Mark 16:15).
  •  Your faith (Romans 10:17).
  •  Your hope(Romans 15:4).

Q: As a competitor, how important is your playbook or a game plan?
Q: In what ways can reading God’s Word fuel you spiritually?

Just as you need physical and mental fuel for athletic performance, you need spiritual fuel to walk out God’s purpose for your life. Studying the Word of God is that fuel.

FCA can help you read every day by providing the Daily Impact Play email and YouVersion reading plans. Better yet, find a friend to read the Bible with you. It might amaze you what might happen through that. Let’s pray.
