Pursue Team Wk 8

Silent Ball: As a whole team or smaller groups, form a circle and silently pass a ball in the circle (you may not pass to the person directly next to you) This must be done in complete silence. The objective is to see how many passes you can get without making noise.

Q: How did you know the person you were going to pass the ball to was ready?

Having a team and communicating as a team was important to today’s game. Could you play silent ball by yourself? Could you play ________(sport) by yourself?  What happens when a team does not communicate during a game?

Paul said having a team is also important for those who are pursuing Jesus. “And let us consider one another in order to provoke love and good works, not neglecting to gather together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging each other, and all the more as you see the day approaching.” — Hebrews 10:24-25

WORKOUT

Q: What are traits of a good teammate?

Good teammates should be encouraging and help bring out the best in everyone on the team. We need a team to help us as we pursue Jesus too. Having a team will help us when we are confused or struggling with something. A team also helps us serve other people and encourage one another.

When we pursue truth, life, faith and identity through Jesus we join Team Jesus. When we do that our attitude needs to shift from me centered to others centered.

Q: Is it hard to put others first? Why?

Q: What are some ways you can put others first on the team? (not laughing at other’s mistakes, sharing snacks, cheering on others, taking turns)

Our verse from Hebrews also talks about good works. That means helping others who need our help. It could look like gathering canned goods and donating them to the local food bank. Maybe it means donating some money to a church or local mission. It could be helping someone with yard work (just make sure you have your parent’s permission).

Being on Team Jesus unites believers with a common goal. We are more powerful together – just like our team is better when we all play as a team.

Let’s pray!

“Lord, help us be good teammates on this team and Team Jesus. Unite us around the common goal of being more like You. Help us see how we can serve those around us. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
