Pursue Mission Wk 9

In our last meeting we talked about being on Team Jesus and how that gives us a common purpose. Today we are going to learn what that purpose is.

Q: Does anyone know what the Great Commission is?

It is Jesus’ final set of instructions to His disciples before He went up Heaven. “Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” — Matthew 28:19-20

Q: According to these verses, what are we supposed to do? What mission should we be pursuing? (making disciples and teaching them Jesus’ commands)

A disciple in the Bible is someone who follows, obeys and shares about Jesus. The word disciple means learner.

The mission Jesus gives is a big mission. That is why we need a team to accomplish it. Making disciples of all nations will take every believer.

Q: What would you say is the mission of our team?

Q: What is your mission in competition?

Knowing the mission helps everyone be focused and do their part. As people who are pursuing Jesus we have a mission to tell other people about Him. There are a few ways we can do that.

  1. Share The FOUR – we learned this the earlier in the season. (show bracelet or hand out bracelets.) Let’s review each symbol: What is this first symbol? Yes, a heart. It means that God made you and loves you! He wants a friendship with you – for you to be on His team.  What’s next? Yes, a divide sign. It means that when we choose to do things the way we want (that’s called sin) we divide ourselves from God. When we ignore God we cannot experience His love.  Then it is the cross.  The cross shows us that even though we have sinned, God still loves us and wants a relationship with us. He sent His Son, Jesus, to take our punishment so we can have a relationship with God again and be on His Team. What’s the last one?  A question mark.  Will you trust Jesus?
  1. Invite others to read the Bible with us.
  1. Invite friends and teammates to go to church with us.

We are called to make disciples by telling others about who Jesus is, what Jesus has done and how they can be followers and receive Jesus’ forgiveness for their sins. We need to be ready to pursue this mission no matter how old we are.

Let’s pray!

“Lord, thank You that You made Your mission for our lives clear. Give us courage and words to speak as we try to make disciples of all nations. Continue to push us to pursue You always. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
