WARM-UP
Tag: play a simple game of tag with one person It. Change the boundaries to make it easier or more difficult for the tagger.
Q: What is the goal of the person who is It?
Q: What is the goal of the other people?
You are either pursuing or being pursued when you play tag. We learned last week that when we have faith in Jesus some action is required. Our verse for this week tells us what we need to do: “So faith comes from what is heard, and what is heard comes through the message about Christ.” — Romans 10:17
WORKOUT
Q: What equipment do you need to compete in ________?
Q: Why is having the right equipment important?
If we tried to play basketball with a football helmet or soccer with a baseball that wouldn’t work out so well. Each sport has a set of equipment necessary for the game to be played correctly. In Romans, Paul told the believers that they also needed the right things to grow in their faith. They needed to pursue the “message about Christ”. So do we!
Q: Where can we go to learn the “message about Christ”?
Yes! The Bible is where we get the message about Christ. The New Testament tells the story of Jesus and what happened during His life and then how the message about Him spread all over through the disciples. The Old Testament also tells an important story. It tells about God and man and their relationship. So the entire Bible helps us pursue faith.
Time in God’s Word does three things:
- God speaks to us through His Word.
- God instructs us through His Word.
- God equips us through His Word.
When we pursue faith through reading our Bible we get to know God and know what He wants us to do.
WRAP-UP
Spending time in God’s Word is so important. This week try to read a chapter of John each day.
Let’s pray!
“Lord, we are grateful that You gave us Your Word so that we can pursue faith and know You. Guide us as we read our Bibles this week. Thank You for this team and this time together. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
