WARM-UP
Q: What does it mean to make a commitment? It is like a promise.
Q: What is something you are committed to?
Turn and share with the person next to you what you think it looks like to be committed to a team. What are things a person does if they are committed to a team? (Have a few share.)
People who do those things are proven to be committed. They prove they are not only part of the team but they are dedicated to the team.
WORKOUT
Let’s review our key verse. “My ________ is glorified by this: that you produce much ______ and ______ to be my ________.” (Father, fruit, prove, disciples).
When you committed to play for this team this season you signed up for a few things. You committed to coming to practice, to being a good teammate, to competing with the team, to wearing our uniform. We have talked a lot this season about choices and choosing to obey the commands of Jesus. Sometimes making that commitment or keeping that commitment is hard.
Q: What might make it hard to stay committed to Team Jesus?
Right. Sometimes we might not know what to do. Remember Jesus is like our coach. He wants to help us in our commitment. If you don’t learn a new skill the first time, do you give up right away? No, you try again and again and again until you get it. Part of committing to Team Jesus is committing to not giving up when we do things wrong, forget to invest in our relationship with Jesus or just plain ole’ disobey. We say we are sorry and try to do better.
WRAP-UP
Commitments aren’t easy but committing to Jesus is definitely worth it.
Let’s pray!
“Lord, we want to be committed to You. Equip us with what we need to do that well. Forgive us when we mess up or forget. Be with us as we practice and compete. We love You. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
