WARM-UP
Play Simon Says
Q: Why do some people get out when playing this game?
Simon Says is pretty simple, right? All you have to do is listen and only follow the command when you hear “Simon says . . .”. So, why did so many of you get out?
Our verse for this week is Jesus talking to His disciples. “If you keep my commands you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love.” — John 15:10.
It looks like we have another choice – to keep Jesus’ commands or not.
WORKOUT
Q: What would it be like if we never practiced and only went to games?
Q: What would it be like if the coach never said anything in practice or the games?
It would be hard, wouldn’t it, and a little crazy and frustrating, too. The job of the coach is to teach and guide the team. When we join Team Jesus we get the best coach ever! But, according to our verse for this week, we have a choice. Are we going to do what He commands or not?
Q: What kind of things do I ask you to do in practice or competition?
Q: Why do I ask you to do those things?
My goal is to help you get better and be successful. Jesus’ goal is the same. When we do what Jesus asks us to do, we remain in His love. What a great place to be. But, how do we know what Jesus is asking us to do?
We learn about what Jesus is asking us to do in the Bible. When we read the Bible, we choose to be coached by Jesus. Through the Bible we know what we should do. Then we get to choose – will we do it or not?
WRAP-UP
Jesus is the best coach, and He wants the best for those on His team. If we choose to listen to Him, He promises we will remain in His love. That sounds like a safe place to be.
Let’s pray!
“Lord, choosing to obey can be hard. Sometimes we don’t know what the right thing is and sometimes we just choose the wrong thing. Forgive us and guide us as we try to keep Your commands. Coach us in Your commands and keep us in Your love. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
