WELCOME
“But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be provided for you.” – Matthew 6:33
Thumbs up or thumbs down: We should seek all the glory. We should keep track of all of our awards. We should seek the kingdom of God first. God gets the glory.
This week we will look at a couple things we can do to help us turn from chasing our glory to reflecting God’s lasting glory.
WARM-UP
Amoeba Tag: Choose two people to be “it.” Have them link arms and chase the others. Any person they catch joins the chain by linking arms. When another person is caught they can stay together or split into pairs, but they must split into even numbers and can link together at will. This game is played until nobody is left and the entire group is all linked together.
What was more fun, being chased by the amoeba or being a part of the amoeba chasing others?
Did expanding the amoeba make it easier or more difficult to catch more people?
WORKOUT
In the game things were easier when you had a team. In our sport, things are easier when we work together. The same is true in God’s Kingdom. When we team up with others who have a relationship with Jesus, we grow closer to Jesus and then we reflect His glory even more.
Where are some places you might meet others who have a relationship with Jesus? (church, Sunday school, FCA Club/League, school, neighbors – almost any where)
One of the things God wants us to do to glorify Him is to share the good news of salvation with others and invite them into God’s Kingdom.
What might be some ways you could share Jesus through your sport? (pray before games/practice, show kindness/respect/love for teammates/officials/opponents, share with a teammate about what God is doing in your life)
When we spend time with others who have a relationship with Jesus we call that fellowship. It is a time of building each other up and learning more about Jesus. Huddle time is a great example of fellowship.
God also wants us to spend time with Him in His Word – the Bible and in talking to Him in prayer. When we do these three things we will continue to reflect His glory more and more.
What are some ways you all can spend time in the Bible? (have parents read, use a children’s Bible, Bible coloring book)
WRAP-UP
Our motivation needs to be glorifying Him in everything we do – from our sport to all areas of our lives. If we devote ourselves to His word, prayer and fellowshipping with other believers, we are sure to glorify Him more and more.
Let’s pray.
“Dear Lord, shining Your light is something we want to do. We no longer want to chase our glory but reflect Yours. Grow our friendships with other believers. Help us be in Your Word more and to go to You in prayer. Thank You that we can ask these things knowing You hear us and answer us. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
Whose glory, team?
God’s glory!
