For His Glory

“For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be the glory forever. Amen.” – Romans 11:36

This verse pretty much sums up the reason why God gets all the glory. Today we are going to put together all the pieces of what giving God glory looks like in our lives.

Mini-Spotlight Drill: break the team into small groups. To start, choose one player to be in the center of the group. (Each player will have a turn in the center of their group.) The other players will spotlight the players’ gifts – athletically and characteristically. Encourage them to avoid things like nice hair or great shoes but to focus on the person. Once each player has gone, a different player will be in the center.

Everything you do in competition and life should be for God’s glory but what does that mean for you daily?  How should that show up in your life?

Does giving God glory mean pointing to the sky after a great play like the pros do? No!

Giving God glory in your daily life should show up in three ways.

  1. Prayer: talking and listening is important in any relationship and it is really important in your relationship with God. Prayer is how we let God know how we feel about what is going on in our lives. It is a time for us to thank Him and also to say sorry for our sins.  Just as important, is taking time to listen during prayer.  It is okay for there to be silence.
  1. Bible study: we have discussed this before. To know God you have to study His Word.  Reading the Bible can seem intimidating because it is a really big book. It is not meant to be read front to back like most books.  Start with one of the Gospels: Matthew, Mark, Luke or John.  They tell about the life of Jesus. Read one of Paul’s letters to a growing church in the New Testament. The Bible is full of wisdom and some confusing things too. Don’t be afraid to ask an adult to help you understand things better.
  1. Christian community: we talked about this last week. Having a team makes this easier. Having friends who also love Jesus and want to know more about Him will help you in your faith journey.

Having these three things as a part of your daily life will help you not only grow closer to the Lord but they will help you be prepared to share the Good News about Jesus with other people.  We also practice these things so that we stay strong when life gets hard.

No one is perfect at doing these things all of the time. But living our lives for His glory should be the motivating factor in everything we do so when we miss a few days of Bible reading or forget to pray we just start again because we want God to be glorified.

Let’s pray!

Lord, we want to glorify You with our lives. Guide us as we pray, read the Bible and build Christian friendships. When we mess up, give us the motivation to start again. We love you. In Your name, amen.”

Hands in, whose glory?

God’s glory!
