WARM-UP
Freeze Tag: Choose one or two people to be it. When others are tagged they must freeze in place. They remain frozen until tagged by someone who is not it. Switch taggers every so often. Set a boundary to make it more challenging.
When you play freeze tag, how hard is it for you to stay still once you are frozen? It is almost impossible to stay totally still. It’s hard to remain in one place for a long time because we like to move around.
Remain in this verse means to stay in it. Jesus is asking us to stay in His love.
WORKOUT
Sometimes we run from God; we don’t stay in His love. We run off because we don’t like to sit still and instead we want to do what we want. We don’t always want to do what God says. But Jesus tells us if we keep His commands we will stay in His love. And when we do that His joy will be in us and we will have complete joy.
What happens when you choose not to do what your coach tells you to do in a game and instead you do what you want?
Right! Not good. You miss out on the game and how it was created to be played. When everyone listens to the coach and plays the game the way it was created to be played, everyone gets to experience the joy of the game.
When you don’t do what the coach coached you to do there is a consequence. Sometimes, like you said, the player has to sit out. Sometimes doing things your way could result in a penalty or foul which costs the whole team.
WRAP-UP
“If you keep my commands you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love.” Remaining in Jesus’ love means we remain in God’s love. It is the best place to be.
Let’s pray.
“Lord, we don’t always do what You want. We don’t always do what we are supposed to. Forgive us and help us to remain in Your love. Help us feel Your love. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
Let’s break Huddle. Hands in! 1-2-3- Proven!
