WARM-UP
How do you know who is on your team? (uniform)
Does everyone on a team look alike?
Of course not! There are different heights, skin color, hair color, eye color, shoe sizes but we know they are on the same team because they are all wearing the same uniform/jersey/shirt.
When we are on God’s team, we begin to look like Him. We wear His jersey – the fruit we learned about last time.
WORKOUT
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. . ..” – Galatians 5:22-23
To grow the fruit of the Spirit we need to spend time with God because that is where we learn about Him and His ways. It would be silly to show up to a game if you had never been to practice. You would have no idea what you were doing. It is the same for us if we want to remain connected to the vine and produce much fruit.
We spend time with God when we read the Bible. How many of you read your Bible? It can be intimidating. The Bible is big and some parts are confusing. If you are not sure where to start, go to the New Testament. That part is toward the back and it teaches about Jesus. You can start in one of the Gospels – Matthew, Mark, Luke or John. They all talk about Jesus’ life and teachings.
Another way we spend time with God is through prayer. How many of you pray? Prayer is a conversation with God. We tell Him about what is going on in our lives, we thank Him for the blessings in our lives, we ask for forgiveness for the things we have done wrong, and we ask for what we need. Prayer is also listening – we take time to just be quiet with God.
WRAP-UP
Time with God each day helps pull the weeds (bad habits and sin) and it helps cultivate the Fruit of the Spirit. We make God happy when He sees the fruit growing in our lives. He loves us being on His team and He loves being our coach.
Let’s pray!
“Lord, we want to spend more time with You. Help us to want to read the Bible and pray. Guide us as we read and help us to feel You close when we pray. Forgive us when we forget and remind us to remain in You. In Your name, amen.”
Let’s break Huddle. Hands in! 1-2-3- Proven!
