WARM-UP
10 Questions: Leader or athlete picks an object. Athletes are allowed to ask 10 questions in order to guess what the object is.
How did you figure out what the object was? You spent time asking questions and listening to answers. Spending time with someone speaking and listening to them helps your friendship. Did you know the same thing is true of our relationship with Jesus?
WORKOUT
What would happen if you and I switched places for a game or practice?
It seems like it would be pretty fun because being in charge sounds like a lot of fun. Being a coach isn’t an easy job. There is a lot to keep track of. A coach is a coach because they want to teach athletes how to be better at a sport and how to grow as a team.
We all have roles. What are some roles/positions on the team?
In John 15:5, Jesus is telling us our roles. He is the vine. We are the branches. The vine tells the branches how to grow – just like a coach helps the athletes play better.
What happens if a team doesn’t have a coach?
It would be a disaster. A team needs a coach to help everyone know the rules of the game, to help with practice and skills, and even who should be in the game and when to come out of the game. Every team needs someone to guide them during the game and to encourage them when they get tired or frustrated.
That is what Jesus does for us. When we remain or stick close to Him, He provides for our needs and teaches us what we need to know to live our lives. Just like a coach, He teaches us how to live life His way, which is the best way. We find these directions in the Bible. His commands help us know how to treat others, how to love Him and how to live our lives.
WRAP-UP
It is sometimes hard to remember our role. We want to be in charge and we want to do things our way. But things work out better when we remain in Him.
What is one benefit of remaining in Jesus?
Let’s pray!
“Lord, we are grateful we can have connection to You. Thank You for teaching us, guiding us and giving us the Bible to remain in You. In Jesus name, amen.”
Let’s break Huddle. Hands in! 1-2-3- Proven!
