Identity
Ready:
“So you are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then God has made you an heir.”- Galatians 4:7
Set:
Who are you? Parent, sibling, spouse, job title, all of these play a role in how we define ourselves. One of the most rewarding titles ever is “coach”. We respond to it like it is our name.
In the book of Galatians, the Apostle Paul wanted to clarify a very powerful truth of the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross and His resurrection: for all who have put their faith in Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of their sins, you are officially adopted into the family of God. No longer are you a foreigner to God, but family! A son or daughter. An heir to Father God and co-heirs with Jesus Christ.
So, you are not your wins and losses. You are not just the one parents complain about. You are not that one mistake. You are not what the sports culture defines you as. You are what God says you are: His child, loved, forgiven, redeemed, healed, righteous, saved, a co-heir with Christ, and a new creation! And this identify is available to all who repent and believe in Jesus. As a believer, the next time someone asks, “Who are you?” rest in this truth and never forget who you truly are in Christ!
Go:
- What titles do you identify with?
- What does it mean for you to be called a child of God and co-heir with Christ?
Workout:
Romans 8:15-17; John 1: 12-13; Ephesians 2:10
Overtime:
“Heavenly Father, help me to know my true identity in You. Guide me to never allow my mistakes, successes, and the sports culture to define who I am. Help me accept my identity in You. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
