READY:
“My Father is glorified by this: that you produce much fruit and prove to be my disciples.” — John 15:8
“I have told you these things so that my joy may be in you and your joy may be complete.” — John 15:11
SET:
Proving something takes time and commitment. But the joy that comes from that makes it worth it. When I started coaching I was just a parent who wanted to be involved in my child’s life and sports journey. But working with those young athletes sparked a joy and a desire to prove I could be a legit coach. Hours of study and discussion with a mentor coach later I landed a paid coaching position. I proved it.
Often proving something feels like so much work but Jesus is quick to tell us that He told us all “these things” so we can experience His joy (which is perfect) and our joy can be complete. The work of being a disciple is worth it because a relationship with Jesus and an eternity worshiping Him is worth it. There is nothing more joy giving than that. The long season of coaching is worth is because we see the growth and joy of our athletes – a dim comparison but one we can relate to.
Life and coaching demand much from us and often the return is not equal to the output. Walking with Jesus and being His disciple is just the opposite. Time spent learning and listening and talking with Him is always filling and fruitful.
GO:
- What is something you feel you have to prove in your life?
- What joy have you experienced in your relationship with Jesus?
WORKOUT:
OVERTIME:
“Lord, proving things is work but You are a refuge. The time we spend with You brings joy and peace. Help us lay aside our agenda and instead open our hearts and minds to You and Your Word. We love You. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
