Coach Devo 10

Week 10

“We encouraged, comforted, and implored each one of you to walk worthy of God, who calls you into his own kingdom and glory.” – 1 Thessalonians 2:12

Changing your mindset about something isn’t easy. I was not a basketball player in high school.  I was a cheerleader for girls and boys basketball.  I watched hours of basketball and celebrated the wins and mourned the losses. When my son was old enough to play basketball, I stepped in to help but, in my mind, I was still just a cheerleader. At the first game I sat with the other parents until the main coach came and got me.  “Coaches sit on the bench,” he said.

With those five words he changed my mindset. I am a coach.  The above verse from 1 Thessalonians should change our mindset as well.  We are called “to walk worthy of God.”  That seems daunting at first, but we should remember we have Jesus as an example. Walking worthy of God is moving toward lasting glory with Him in eternity.  Shifting our mindset from chasing glory to reflecting God’s glory in our coaching and everyday lives is not a sprint but a lifelong journey with stops and starts and twists and turns.  The goal is not to arrive but to continue journeying for the rest of our days.

  1. What benchmarks can you establish to make sure you are shifting from chasing glory to reflecting God’s glory?
  1. What has been the most impactful lesson this season?

Romans 12:2; Galatians 5:22-23; Ephesians 6:10-18

“Lord, thank You for Your Glory and for calling us to such a lofty life. Help me to walk worthy of You and forgive me when I do not do it well. I want my life to glorify You; make me bold enough to make those changes. For Your Glory, amen!
