Coach Devo 1

Week 1

“The heavens declare the glory of God, and the expanse proclaims the work of his hands.” – Psalm 19:1

Picture a World Cup soccer match versus a Saturday morning youth match.  Is one more valuable than the other?  That probably depends on who you ask. Both have value and both have enthusiastic fans but one carries more weight, more prestige and more majesty than the other.

That is the picture of God’s glory and the topic we will dig deep into this season. God is the weightiest, most prestigious, majestic and powerful being in existence. Everything He says or does is glorious. He possesses glory, can share glory, can receive glory. Glory describes God’s presence. Glory is God’s.

Why, then, do we try to take His glory? It is actually a futile cycle we find ourselves in. Seeking glory, relishing it or being disappointed when it passes us by, so we seek more glory only to do the cycle all over again. There has to be a better way.

Coach, this season we will move from chasing glory to reflecting God’s lasting glory. In this we will find freedom.

  1. How do you see coaching as a way to garner glory?
  1. Have you ever thought about God’s glory before?  What comes to mind when you consider God’s glory?

Isaiah 43:7; John 1:14; 2 Corinthians 3:18; Matthew 6:33

“Father, You deserve all the glory.  Thank you for putting me with this team and giving us this time to learn more about You. Lead me as I lead the team. We want to give You the glory. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
