SET:
Producing in the sports world means points, goals, steals, wins. It may even mean building a renowned program or athlete. We live in a production minded culture. If you aren’t producing, you aren’t succeeding.
Thankfully, Jesus does not define production the same way the culture does. When He talks about being fruitful He is talking about fruits grown by the Spirit in our lives. Fruit that blesses us and those around us.
Looking at this list of fruit, knowing this is what being connected to Jesus, the Vine, produces in our lives is reassuring. Wins or a lot of points is nowhere to be seen. Instead, this list of traits gives us a roadmap for how we should treat others and the attitude we should reflect.
I have been connected to the Vine for the better part of 27 years. I still do not have all of this fruit all of the time. But I remain in Him, and together more and more fruit is produced. That is what it takes. A continuedremaining, remembering my role is to be connected and allowing myself to be pruned – those are the things that produce the fruit of the Spirit.
GO:
- Do you consider yourself a productive coach? Explain.
- Which fruit do you feel you need more of? Pray and ask for the Lord to produce it in your life.
WORKOUT:
OVERTIME:
“Lord, thank You that I don’t have to be productive in the worldly sense to please You. Grow the Fruit of the Spirit in me through our time together. Thank You for the fruit You are already producing my life. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
