Wall Up on Drives

Set up: One line will form at the top of the key with basketballs while one player plays defense.

Movement: On whistle offensive player will try to score on defender. Initially defender will be down in a defensive stance and shade the offensive player to their weak hand. On the perimeter the defender slides feet while keep hands active in the passing lanes. As offense player moves close to the basket the defenders arms will go straight up to make it more difficult for the offensive player to see the rim and get a clean shot off. This principal applies to players in all positions – around the rim they should be hands up tall to challenge offense, and to help prepare them for quick rebounds. Key Focus Points: Moving from perimeter defense down in a defensive stance to tall posture, becoming as big as possible while still moving feet.
