Walking Handoffs

SET UP

Two cones about 8 yards apart. Players will split up and face each other on opposite sides of the cones. The first player in one of the line will have a ball.

MOVEMENT

Players will begin walking towards each other as they make good handoffs with the football. Have players receiving the handoff hold their arms in the correct arm up/arm down position, creating a pocket to receive the handoff.

When players reach the cone, they should turn to the other side of the cone and begin walking back for another handoff.

KEY FOCUS POINTS

  • Correct arm placement when receiving the handoff. The arm to the side of the handoff should be on top. The far arm should be down.
  • Players with the football should hold the ball out so it fits perfectly in the pocket. The receiving player should slightly pull the ball away instead of it being dropped into the pocket.
