Set up cones 4-5 yards apart in a straight line. Then, mirror the cones in another line about 5 yards over (see diagram). Players will line up at the first cone. If you have a few footballs, have players hold the football as they run the drill.
The drill begins when the first player runs full speed to the first cone where he hits the brakes and comes to a complete stop for a split second before bursting forward towards the next cone. Repeat this up and down the course.
KEY FOCUS POINTS
- Players should run this full speed.
- Work on stopping with as few steps as possible.
- Stops should be short with a quick restart. There should be a suddenness about stopping and starting.
