Over The Shoulder

SET UP

Players will pair up and line-up 8 to 15 yards (depending on age) from each other. All players should be facing the same direction. This drill mimics a receiver running away from the quarterback.

MOVEMENT

With the receiver should face away from the quarterback. He should be looking over his inside shoulder while pumping his arms while running in place.

The quarterback will pass the ball in an attempt to drop the ball over the receivers shoulder for him to catch it.

Receivers should cradle catch the ball or turn and high-point catch the pass as the ball approaches.

Quarterback and receiver positions will switch after each pass.

Repeat drill several rounds.

KEY FOCUS POINTS

  • Quarterbacks should throw the ball with a touch as they attempt to lob the ball over the shoulder.
