SET UP
Players pair up and line up facing each other with 3 yards space in between them. One line is offense and one line is defense.
MOVEMENT
When coach give the command, both players get active with the defensive player moving to either the left or right side of the offensive player. The offensive player will engage the defensive player with his hands (elbows always bent) as he blocks him by staying with him so he cant make a tackle.
Start with defensive players going half speed. Then work to faster speeds. Let the players know this drill is for the offense to practice on blocking.
Repeat this drill several times.
KEY FOCUS POINTS
- Block with your elbows bent. Extending arms is illegal.
- As a blocker you have to keep your feet moving! If you move your feet, you cant be beat!
