Set up a series of cones in a stair-step pattern. Each stair step should be about 3 yards. See diagram. Note, if you have tackling pads, they can be used instead of cones.
Players will run up to the first wall of cones and laterally move to the right. Once they clear the wall they will accelerate up the field to the next wall of cones. Repeat this process through the entire drill.
KEY FOCUS POINTS
- This drill is about developing lateral quickness.
- Transitions between lateral and forward direction should be explosive.
- Players should keep feet below them without overextending during lateral movement.
