Proven 2 Introduction

“Prove It” – choose two-three mid to high level skills for your sport – ask for volunteers to showcase the skill. When the athlete says they can do it, simply say “Prove It” and hand them the equipment they need.

Q: What did it feel like to have to prove you could do something?

This season we are going to learn the last two parts of the Proven theme: choose and commit.

Our key verse for this season is John 15:8, “‘My Father is glorified by this: that you produce much fruit and prove to be my disciples.’”

We have to prove things all the time. In school we prove we know something by taking a test or completing a task. In sports we prove we are on the team by coming to practice and wearing our team jersey. Jesus asks us to prove we are disciples by producing fruit.

Q: What is a disciple? It means learner so in this verse it means someone who is learning the teachings of Jesus.

Q: What else could you be a disciple of? (sport, music, foreign language)

Q: Any ideas what fruit Jesus is talking about?

When Jesus talks about producing fruit He is talking about the Fruit of the Spirit, which are traits those who are connected to Jesus grow in their lives. These traits are: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. When these traits are in our lives we show that Jesus is our coach.

We are going to take time each week to learn more about the ideas of choose and commit.

Our Huddle time is a really important time. I am excited to learn with you each week.

Let’s pray!

“Lord, we are excited for this season. Please be with us as a team, as we learn together and compete together. We are excited to learn more about You as we look at choose and commit and figure out more about disciples and fruit. Keep us safe and help us glorify You. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
