READY:
“Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” — Matthew 28:19
SET:
Do you remember the first time you competed in your sport? The time you scored that clutch point? The first time you mastered a difficult skill? When the incredible happens we are so excited we want to share about it with everybody. These days we can share our epic athletic feats with one social media post.
What about your faith? Are you quick to share about that? Jesus tells us in John 15 that “If you keep my commands you will remain in my love,” (15:10). One of those commands is the Great Commission, our verse for this week. The expectation of a follower of Jesus is that we will make disciples wherever we go.
So, why don’t we?
It’s scary. People might not like us. We might be labeled weird. We don’t know how. All of these are very legitimate thoughts but frankly, they are excuses. A disciple is a learner or follower. If you are a disciple of Jesus then you have all you need to disciple someone else. If you are following the words and ways of Jesus, then you can guide someone else as they seek to do the same. Will it be perfect? Nope. Will it be easy? Nope.
We need to pray for hearts that are just as excited to share what the Lord is doing in our lives and the beautiful Scripture we read and the enlightening sermon we heard as we are about the giant fish we caught and the improvement to our golf handicap.
After all, eternity is at stake.

“Lord, I want to obey Your commands. Embolden me to be a light of the Gospel. Remove fear and anything that would hinder me from sharing You with those in my life. Forgive me for the times I have not spoken or shared when I should have. Grow my heart closer to You and fill me with Your words so I am always ready. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
