Proven 1- Introduction

Are you ready for our first Huddle time? I am so excited that each one of you is on the team. This time is a time in our practice where we will learn more about Jesus and our relationship with Him.

Let’s start with a game!

Prove It! – Who thinks they can (insert appropriate sport skill for this age group: half court shot, goal from mid-field, hit a homerun with one eye open, ect . . .)? Name a few and ask athletes to raise their hands. Then pick a 2-3 volunteers.

Okay, prove it! Everyone else, pick a side. Stand to the left if you think they will succeed and stand to the right if you think they will miss.

That was pretty impressive! Let’s pray and then we will talk about what we are going to be doing in Huddle time this season.

Lord, we are grateful for this team and the opportunity to glorify You through sport. I pray that as a team we will encourage one another, be ready to learn and always do our best. Be with us this season as we learn more about You and how to grow closer to You. Protect us as we practice and compete. Thank you for this time. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

In our game I asked you to prove you could do something. Why do people want proof of something? (take a few answers)

We want evidence it is true. Jesus wants evidence too. We are going to be looking at John 15 this season. John 15:8 says, “My Father is glorified by this: that you produce much fruit and prove to be my disciples.” If you were with us a year ago, we spent the season learning that glory belongs to God because He is the most magnificent and deserves the honor, not us. This year we are going to explore how we prove we are disciples.

Does anyone know what the word disciple means?

It means learner or student. You can be a disciple of lots of things. We are disciples of (insert sport) because we are learning (sport). What are some things we do to show we are disciples or learners of (sport)?

Yes!  All of those things prove it. Through these next 9 weeks we are going to see how we can prove we are disciples of Jesus – learners of the ways and words of Jesus.

I am excited to talk about these things with you and learn alongside you. I am also excited for a fun season of competition.

Let’s pray

“Lord, as we learn about being a disciple of Yours, guide us. Open our hearts and ears to hear and learn. Thank You for this time together. In Your name, amen.”

We’ll break Huddle with our hands in and all say “Proven”.
