READY:
“We all, with unveiled faced, are looking as in a mirror at the glory of the Lord and are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory; this is from the Lord who is the spirit.” – 2 Corinthians 3:18
SET:
One of my favorite sports film lines is, “Attitude reflects leadership, captain.” This assessment of why things are not going well from Remember the Titans has always struck me. As the leader of a team of middle school girls or youth boys, I set the tone for the whole team. What I do or don’t allow in conversations and bench talk, how I handle mis-ques and perceived bad calls or my reaction to a parent cornering me after a game all reflect back on me and my leadership.
It stands to reason then that what I am filled with will be reflected in my leadership. If I am filled with selfish ambition or I build my worth on my record and player stats, I am likely to have an attitude that is great when things are going great and horrible when things are not going great. On the other hand, if I am filled with the peace of the Lord my attitude will reflect that peace no matter how the season is going.
Coach, to reflect the Lord you have to know the Lord. There is only one place to go to do that. God’s Word, the Bible. Nothing has transformed my life more than the time I spend daily in God’s Word. And I believe the same can be true for you. Through time in the Word, we learn who God is, what He wants, and how we should live our lives. We see the ways that God has worked in the lives of man for generations and generations and how He may work in our lives.
GO:
- How can you build in more time to study God’s Word? What benefits do you see in creating that time?
- What would others say is your current attitude in competition? Is that the attitude you want to reflect?
WORKOUT:
- 2 Timothy 3:16-17
- Psalm 119:105
- Hebrews 4:12
OVERTIME:
“Father, if I want to reflect You, I need to know You. Grow my heart to know You and to study Your Word. I want to reflect Your glory in all my relationships but especially to my team. In Jesus’ name, amen.
