Week 9
READY
“Everything is from God, who has reconciled us to himself through Christ and has given us the ministry of reconciliation. That is, in Christ, God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and he has committed the message of reconciliation to us.” – 2 Corinthians 5:18-19
SET
Have you ever had to step between players in conflict? Have you ever had to deal with a belligerent parent who was angry about how their child was being coached? Conflict seems inevitable when competition is involved. Where there is conflict, reconciliation is necessary. We may not be able to reconcile players in conflict or make a parent feel better about their child’s experience, but we can reconcile the most important relationship we will ever have.
Despite our chasing of glory for ourselves and our tendency to want to do things our own way (that’s sin), God desires to be reconciled with us. He accomplishes that through the blood of His Son, Jesus. By living the perfect life we could never live and dying the death we deserve, Jesus has broken the power of sin. His resurrection from the dead means we can come into relationship with God.
God revealed His full glory in Jesus. Jesus casts the glory back to God when He obeyed His Father all the way to death. This is the most important reconciliation there ever was.
GO
- When you consider the extent of God’s love, how does that make you feel? How do you respond?
- What does coaching and living in light of God’s heart for reconciliation look like?
