Coach’s Devotion 9

“Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light on my path.” – Psalm 119:105

Every coach, no matter the sport or the level, knows that if athletes are going to have a chance to perform up to their God given ability, they need the proper nutrition. The proper nutrition is the fuel that allows them to compete and perform in their sport, regardless of the setting. We, as coaches, remind them daily of this need. At the higher levels of athletics, we even furnish their fuel by way of training tables.

How much more important is it to give an athlete the proper “fuel” to be their best in life?  And what is the “fuel” for life?  God’s Word! Because you wear the title coach, you have the ability and the responsibility to share God’s Word as the fuel for life with your athletes. Yes, we want our athletes to win in competitions but let’s be sure to prepare them to win in the ultimate competition: life.

  1. How important is the word of God in helping you fuel your day?
  2. What method do you use to “consume” your biblical nutrition?
  3. What is success to you: an athlete/team winning a championship or an athlete accepting the Lord as his/her personal savior?

Psalm 119:105; Joshua 1:8; Matthew 4:4

“Lord, You are the great coach. Lead me today so my thoughts, words and actions honor Your plan for me as I wear the title coach. Make me bold to share You with my team. In your name, amen.”
