Reset 3

“STOP FIGHTING, AND KNOW THAT I AM GOD, EXALTED AMONG THE NATIONS, EXALTED ON THE EARTH.” —PSALM 46:10

Today we are going to continue learning that when Christ resets my perspective, I’m free in Him.

Simons Says

Raise your hand if you have ever played Simon says? Great! If you have not played, all you have to do is listen to what I (Simon) says to do, and you only do the action if I start the sentence with “Simon says….” If I don’t say Simon and you do the action, then you are out.

After playing a few rounds go up to a kid and invite them to come back into the game, after one more round so the same to another kid that was out. After you are done, have all kids sit down.

Call on a young athlete that got invited back into the Simon says game.

Q: How did it make you feel when you got to start over and come back into the game?

Q: Did you deserve to be invited back into the game?

Some of you got invited back to the game when you did nothing to earn your way back into the game. This is called grace. Peter needed grace from God when he messed up. Once he accepted God’s grace in his life, he was able to reset and be free from his mistake.

BIBLE STORY: Peter’s Denial and Reinstatement Luke 22:54–62; Matthew 26:69–75

Have you ever seen a coach get really mad in practice?  One thing that can make coaches really mad is taking it easy when we need to be working hard.

In our story, Peter took the easy way out because he was scared. He denied knowing Jesus because he thought he would be hurt if people thought they were friends. Peter loved Jesus. Jesus reset his whole life, but in that moment, he messed up and let fear win.

“SO IF THE SON SETS YOU FREE, YOU REALLY WILL BE FREE.” —JOHN 8:36

Peter was so upset, he “wept bitterly,” meaning he cried hard because he denied Jesus. But Peter’s story doesn’t end with him crying. Peter wanted to make things right; he just didn’t know how. Peter needed to stop and reset in order to recover from his mistake. To be free, Peter had to repent and give his mistake to God so he could keep following Jesus.

Q: Why would God want us to come to Him when we mess up?

God wants to forgive us and set us free from feeling guilty and the shame of the mistake. He wants to set us free so we can keep following Him!

Q: What is something you want to be free from? (Ex. fear, pride, jealousy, anger, etc.)

If this is something you wish to talk about, grab me or one of the coaches and we’ll talk.  Remember Jesus is always there to talk to, and He can reset us and make us free.

(Pray and break the huddle)
