Week 1: Introduction

Coach’s Corner

Warm Up

Hello, everyone! I am so glad you can join us these next few weeks as we discover and learn about God’s Game Plan.

I want you to partner with the person next to you and tell them how you make your favorite sandwich, step by step. (Give this three minutes.)

To make your sandwiches, you have to have a plan and actions to make it right. What happens if you don’t have any steps? That’s right, no sandwich. Plans help us accomplish our goals!

Before diving into our devotion, let‘s pray:

“Heavenly Father, thank You for each kid here. As we start this series, I pray that You’ll open our hearts and minds to hear what You are telling us. Give us Your bravery to take what we learn and use it to love others, Amen.”

Workout

Now, can anyone tell me what a game plan is? (Let a few athletes answer.)

Yes! A game plan is a list of items to help you reach your goal. For example, if you desire to win a race, you need a set of steps that help you achieve that goal.

What are some things you would need to do to help you prepare for the race? (Take a few answers from the kids.)

Those are significant steps! As you can tell, winning the race will take some work, but it’s worth the work because of the prize at the end.

What if I told you that God has a game plan for your whole life?

That sounds pretty neat. Can anyone guess the prize at the end of this game plan?

Those are all great guesses, but the award we will receive if we follow God’s game plan is to live with Him forever in Heaven! Life on earth can be hard sometimes, and God knows that, so He provided His Word as a guide to help us know  Him! (What’s His Word called? That’s right, the Bible.)

Over the next few weeks, we will learn three truths the Bible tells us about following God’s game plan and living forever with him!

These truths are:

  • Truth 1: You were made on purpose for a purpose.
  • Truth 2: You can trust God and His Word.
  • Truth 3: God loves you and sent Jesus.

After learning about these three truths, we are responsible for taking action. Our action step is:

  • Action: Love God and love others.

It might be exciting to hear that God has a game plan for your life, but we are still called to show up each day ready to listen and receive what God has in store for us. Following God’s game plan will take work, but don’t fear; we can all do this together. That’s why God gave us teammates!

Wrap-Up

“God, as we learn more about Your Game Plan, I pray that we’ll understand how much You love us and that You have a plan for us. Teach us to always trust Your Word. Amen.”
